Rules:
Within the first week of school, students and I will engage in an activity centered-around creating our classroom contract. This activity is described in great detail on the "Community Building Activities" page. Our classroom contract will include the general rules and expectations for our classroom. It is important that students have as much say in this contract as the teacher. After this first week and throughout the school year, students will be given many chances to practice these procedures. As a teacher, I will model all of these behaviors multiple times to allow for students to see what they should and should not be doing. Below is a list of possible rules/procedures that I plan to implement within my classroom:

- Have Fun!
Procedures:
Within the first week of school, classroom procedures will be established. Like rules, it is important to give students chances to practice these procedures. To best teach these within the first few weeks of school, I will be using the three step method of : Explain, Rehearse, Reinforce. Students will receive the "Explain" portion within the first week, followed by "Rehearse" and "Reinforce" practiced through the reminder of the school year. Below is a collection of procedures I plan to use within my classroom. Each procedure was chosen carefully based off our general classroom schedule. To begin, start and end of day procedures are included to ensure a smooth start and end to each day. Then, I dive into general procurers every classroom should have such as lunch choice, hallway, and assignment turn in. Lastly, to aid in student responsibility, classroom jobs are also included.

Start of DayEach start to the school day will have the following procedures to ensure that students receive a consistent daily schedule. Students know right at the beginning of the day what is expected out of them.
Lunch CountEach day, the lunch count will be taken as soon as all students have found their seats and have followed all other morning procedures. The lunch menu will be posted at the back of the room to be visible to all in the classroom. Lunch Count will be taken each morning by the student that has the "Lunch Counter " job. This student will be responsible for the following:
HallwayHallway procedures are important throughout each school day. Students will be using the hallways to move to lunch, specials, or using the bathroom. All of these transitions require a set of procedures to ensure students are safe in the hallways. The line leader will be at the front of the line.

End of DayJust as the start to the day is important to the remainder of the school day, end of the day procedures are also important to minimize behavior issues. As the end of the day approaches, students tend to become antsy and act out.
Classroom JobsStudents should have many opportunities to grow in their skill of responsibility. Classroom jobs is a great way for students to be responsible and also feel as if the classroom is their own. At the start of each week, all students will be assigned to a job. These jobs will be rotated each week to allow for students to preform each job at least once. By creating classroom jobs, students will feel valued, worthy, and important to the classroom. Jobs will be posted at the front of the classroom for all students to see. It is important to assign "substitutes" for each job, in case a student is absent. If you have more students than jobs, you can project next weeks jobs for those students without jobs to see. Here are a list of jobs within the classroom:

Assignment Turn In
Assignments will be turned in using a "turn in tray". This tray will have a section for each day of the week and color coded. Students will be given the responsibility of turning in papers, taking some of the pressure off of the teacher. All completed work will be in one spot to reduce the risk of lost work. Below is a picture of what this tray may look like.
